Modules

Module 1  |  3 lessons

Foundations of Vedic and Yogic Psychology

## Before you begin This course is educational. It is not medical or psychological treatment, and nothing in it is a diagnosis or a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Several lessons discuss depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use and other clinical conditions, and some describe herbal formulations studied alongside prescribed medication. None of that is a recommendation. If you are receiving treatment, continue it, and speak to your clinician before changing anything. If you are struggling, please reach out to a professional or someone you trust. Sanskrit and psychological terms are collected in the glossary at the end of this module. Where a term appears for the first time, a short gloss is given in the text.

Inner Energetics and the Architecture of the Psyche

## Before you begin This course is educational. It is not medical or psychological treatment, and nothing in it is a diagnosis or a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Several lessons discuss anxiety, depression, PTSD, psychosis, trauma and serious illness, including cancer. None of the practices described here treat any of those conditions. If you are receiving treatment, continue it, and speak to your clinician before changing anything. This module also teaches breath practices, including one that involves briefly holding the breath, and mentions forceful, rapid breathing techniques such as Kapalabhati. Neither breath retention nor forceful breathing is suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, or live with high or low blood pressure, a heart condition, epilepsy, glaucoma, a respiratory condition, panic attacks or a history of trauma, leave the holds out, avoid the rapid techniques, and simply breathe evenly. Stop if you feel dizzy or agitated. Sanskrit and psychological terms are collected in the glossary at the end of this module. Where a term appears for the first time, a short gloss is given in the text.

Application and Integration in Modern Life

## Before you begin This course is educational. It is not medical or psychological treatment, and nothing in it is a diagnosis or a substitute for care from a qualified professional. This module discusses anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, and work with people in psychological distress, and it includes a clinical vignette. If you are receiving treatment, continue it, and speak to your clinician before changing anything. This module also addresses working with other people. Lesson 11 sets out where the scope of this training ends and where referral to a qualified professional begins. If you intend to practise with others, read that section carefully; it matters more than anything else in this module. Sanskrit and psychological terms are collected in the glossary at the end of this module. Where a term appears for the first time, a short gloss is given in the text.

Integration in Mental Health and Professional Practice

Sacred practice, or spiritual bypass?

What the extra year buys you

One thing this course takes seriously: the difference between a practice that deepens awareness and one that quietly helps you avoid something.

You'll learn to ask of any practice — does this make me more aware? Does it soften my reactions? Does it help me meet what's difficult, or step around it? — and to recognise when spirituality is being used as an escape rather than a path. It's an uncomfortable question, and it's one most training avoids. It's also what makes the difference between a practitioner who helps people and one who hands them somewhere to hide.
